what does it say about a society when we don’t have [a third party]?

It says nothing about our society, only about our electoral rules.

ah the grass is always greener. well we're in a reform era, the beginning, the age of reagan just ended, now the age of Obama begins. this will build up the social infrstructure so that republicans can trim it in the future, and then democrats will build it back up? maybe a viable third party will emerge? what does it say about a society when we don't have one, is that what makes us more stable and powerful than others, because we've reduced the argument to this or that? not this that or the other...beware of the other.
